The album was recorded in July of that year, on the initial leg of Bowie's Diamond Dogs Tour, at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. The second leg, a more soul-oriented affair following recording sessions in Philadelphia for the bulk of Young Americans, would be renamed 'Philly Dogs', as reflected on a different live release, Cracked Actor 2017

Heroes is all cuts and jumps ... unlistenable! Others have the same problem with their copy?
Yes, there's a strange warp in my copy, too, which makes for a few jumps on Heroes. It's as if the surface itself is uneven because the disc seems straight when viewed from the edge.
Sadly no one thought to give this some post production at Parlaphone, the marketing moguls getting it wrong again. Just the Orange vinyl bit was right to distinguish it. how those digital ears have lost the feel of real sound. If Frank Zappa was around, he would have sorted it out. A legal bootleg LP, is what we have ended up with. I guess it will appear in another colour with those immortal words "Digitally Remastered"............ All that said note the warning on the rear cover, no promises were made..
Sounds pretty awful - quiet, lifeless, muffled. Seems like it was taken from a slow running tape, or perhaps everyone on the stage that night took the same downers?
Agree. It's an overpriced collector's item that is aimed at completists to part with more money!
Brick my own
Yep this isn't a great recording and is from a slow tape, so sounds brutally sluggish without adjustment. I've upped the fine pitch on my deck by +3.5%. I just compared it side by side to Welcome to the Blackout, so it's a rough match. It's the least essential of the three official '78 tour releases but it's a pretty orange! Still had copies in Brooklyn last weekend for $25.
Anyone have a copy at a reasonable price that can ship to Norway?
I would like one copy of this to ????????‍????
Brooklyn Museum had a few copies today, plus a whole batch of the iSelect compilation....
No, you have to go to the exhibit, at least I did. None were in the lobby when I went, only in the Bowie exhibit gift shop.
But they don’t sell the limited edtion albums there.Only at the 5th floor.
No!The special edition records are only sold at the end of the expo space at the 5th floor. The museum shop downstairs carries some Bowie items, but NOT the exclusive vinyl.
I just went last week - the Bowie swag shop was at the exit of the exhibit and you could only get there by leaving the exhibit (they had quite a few copies of all the exclusive records as well as many other common releases). The actual museum shop (near the entrance) didn't appear to have any of the exclusive records, but did have a few Bowie merch items. The exhibit is awesome!
Yes - the museum shop is outside the ticketed exhibition area.
Can you just go and buy a copy without actually having a ticket for the exhibit?
this was most probably recorded on a cassette from the soundboard (either for the band to hear and correct things, or semi legally for the staff) , so don't expect sonic quality, it's worth 10€ (20 if you're a Bowie completist) but not much imo, it's really muffled, check it on youtube
I went to Brooklyn today and was able to get a copy of Berlin '78. They had plenty of copies in the lobby gift shop and the Bowie shop at the end of the exhibit. They also had plenty of copies of the "Time" single. However, they didn't have any copies of the iSelect LP. Unfortunately, when I got home and put it on the turntable, I immediately noticed that the performance felt sluggish. (I checked my turntable, it's fine.) I compared two songs against an original Japanese LP of Stage, and another against the 2017 CD of Stage. In all cases the songs on the Berlin LP were in a lower key (1/2 step down.) So, unless the band was lowering the keys of some songs for the European leg of the tour (which doesn't seem likely), this LP was made from a slow tape. :-(
Good catch. I just checked “Heroes” on the Berlin ‘78 LP, and it’s roughly 1/4 step lower than the version on Stage. And as you said, sluggish.Bowie sometimes played “Heroes” in lower keys later in his career, but this definitely seems like a mistake. I can’t imagine Bowie telling the band, “Just for fun, let’s play it in F#-and-a-half tonight!”Maybe this is part of the “imperfection inherent in the source” that the back cover disclaimer references. Although...a speed issue is relatively easy to correct...if you recognize it.
The Sinners from Mitar
Yep, I was thinking the same, that record is too slow and that's a shame really.
Picked up two of these on Friday 3/23... Anyone in the UK need a copy? (not at an insane price)
I do! Did you buy a spare for iSelect as well?P.S.: I'm from London.
I'm a sucker for any releases documenting the Isolar I or II tours and this mini lp delivers with a punch. Hold's up with the performances on both Stage and Live Nassau Coliseum '76.
Today - March 18th - they have it back in stock (at the moment) at the Brooklyn Museum.
Today, march 13th. 11 days after the opening of the Exhibition and still 4 months to go.Commercially spoken it would be a bad strategy not to make this edition available again. Already sold out and an urgent needto bring in a new stock.
Global Progression
I select is a leftover and has surprisingly got through a number of cities before obviously selling out...i am suprised it got past 2 exhibitions
I bought two copies at the museum shop today 3/15 but there weren't many...though no iSelect from what I could tell
correction writing error : 'The text is a reply to what a member had written on March 12th.' The subject : availability of this record.
Wrong interpretation of the text. I have not been in the museum myself on March 13th. March 13th was just an indication of time. The text is a reply to whata member has wroten on March 12th. The subject : availability of this record.
The museum is closed on a Tuesday (March 13th), not surprised the vinyl wasnt available
David Bowie Is, Brooklyn Museum, March 2 - July 15, 2018.As I have experienced with the other David Bowie Is Exhibition Stops exclusive vinyl release, copies will be available till July 15, 2018. No need to hurry. Plenty of time.
Does anyone know if they have gotten more in for sale at the exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum? will be in town in a few days and thinking about checking out the exhibit (and remaining complete-ist-ish on my Bowie collection)Any comments on the quality of the release?
to sell you'll keep the played one I bet
I noticed on opening weekend that they had some copies in the downstairs store right when you walk in so you wouldn't necessarily have to buy tix to the exhibit. The exhibit is pretty cool though.
The quality is great, I bought 2 one to listen and one to keep. The exhibition book is a must also.
lucky kitten
There is more at the museum store, just got back from the exhibition.
I see all of these flippers over in Europe. How the F..k di they get them? They must have a buddy (S. C. from Northern NJ, I'm guessing) who supplies them.
Aww aww I think you better get flipping before flipping out
Well, NYC is one of the most visited cities in the world, so there's that. Plus embassy's for all over as well. Guy in Belgium knows a guy here. Not to mention all the labels with offices here. It all makes sense.
yes it's absurd. A new release exclusively pressed for resellers, it seems.
anyone knows how much have been pressed? Same for the 7'release Time?
Sold out for the day. I was there today and they had two on display and had to get more from the back.
Any report on the number pressed is just a WAG at this point. 300 seems way too low though. Most of the exclusives from the other cities this visited have way too many discog owners for the numbers to be that low. The Japanese stop actually had a surplus. Plus, Parlaphone is all about moving product, no reason to keep the numbers that low. At past exhibits these releases have been sold throughout the exhibit's run, so, again, unlikely that all copies have been sold. More likely just that days allotment.
I've heard 300, though I'm not sure. I called the Brooklyn Museum gift shop yesterday, and they were already sold out of the this one by 5pm. So it's probably 300-500 copies.
